ReNew Energy Global plc, an Indian renewable energy leader, and JERA Co., Inc., Japan's largest power company, have partnered to develop a green ammonia production project in Paradip, Odisha. The agreement involves a joint evaluation of the project's commercial viability.

The project will use 500 MW of renewable energy to generate green hydrogen – a critical ingredient in green ammonia. It's projected to produce 100,000 tons of green ammonia annually by 2030. JERA has the right to offtake the produced ammonia for Japan.

This initiative supports India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims for 5 million tons of annual green hydrogen production by 2030. Additionally, it aligns with Japan's clean energy transition goals.

Sumant Sinha, Founder, Chairman & CEO of ReNew, said, "This collaboration marks an exciting time for both ReNew and JERA and demonstrates our commitment to accelerating the clean energy transition."

Yukio Kani, Global CEO & Chair of JERA, added, "This joint development agreement represents a significant milestone... moving us one step closer to realising a decarbonised society, with a focus on the sustainability, affordability, and stability of future energy.”
