In Goa, the newly inaugurated Ibis Styles Goa Vagator, a collaboration between InterGlobe Hotels and Accor, sets new standards. While the establishment reflects Goa's iconic charm, it resonates louder with an eco-conscious philosophy.

Visitors to the hotel are greeted by prominent signs affirming the establishment's pledge, "Feels great to be green." The hotel's commitment shines through its ambitious goal to phase out single-use plastics, retaining only those items for which sustainable alternatives are sought.

The guest rooms offer views of lush green canopies, further solidifying the hotel's connection with nature. Environmentally friendly amenities like bamboo toiletries and glass water bottles underscore the property's sustainable ethos.

Speaking on the initiative, JB Singh, President and CEO of InterGlobe Hotels, highlighted that sustainability has been at the forefront of their operations. "From the initial concept stage of our hotels, we've incorporated green practices. Following IGBC norms, our ambition is to preserve the environment and achieve gold certification standards in sustainability," Singh noted.

The hotel's green initiatives don't end there. Employees undergo a comprehensive six-hour training session on sustainable practices. They also have an advanced food waste management programme, employing technology to measure wastage. Through smart algorithms, the system advises on cooking schedules, dishes to prepare, and appropriate portion sizes to minimise waste.

Singh went on to emphasise the broader perspective on sustainability. "It's not merely about the associated costs; it's about adhering to responsible business practices. We aim to be ahead of the curve in a future where these measures might become obligatory."

This venture is a testament to the hospitality sector's potential in actively contributing to global decarbonisation objectives and address climate change head-on.
