Chani Village in the Udhampur district is slated to become the first model millet village in Jammu and Kashmir, with the aim of increasing millet production.

A millet cultivation awareness camp was organised by the Department of Agriculture Production and Farmer's Welfare District Udhampur in the village of Chani in the Majalta Zone, Sub Division Ramnagar, with the goal of transforming it into a model millet village that is one of a kind in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a department of agriculture official, the goal of popularising millets, their nutritional value and health benefits, ecological suitability, and the beneficial effects of millet cultivation on preserving the ecosystem's rich biodiversity were highlighted in order to celebrate 2023 as the International Year of Millets.

The Director of Agriculture for Jammu, K.K. Sharma, provided general direction for the camp's organisation.

Following discussions, 150 farmers showed a strong interest in growing millets. As a result, seeds of various millets, including finger millet, pearl millet, Kodo millet, barnyard millet, and little millet, have been distributed along with information on how to grow them and how they will contribute to future food security in terms of both the present and the future.

Sarpanch Chani Surishta Devi and all the PRIs attended the camp.

Sanjay Anand, the Chief Agriculture Officer, as well as Kuldeep Singh SDAO Ramnagar, Surinder Gupta SMS, Jyoti Parkash SMS, Sanjeevan Singh AEO Majalta, Amit Dubey AEA, and Sunanda Magotra AEA, were present as District Officers.
